In the old days, when you sent faxes and letters, it was important to send transmittals with any of the documents you were issuing. The transmittal explained what was being delivered and to whom. At the bottom of the transmittal the courier would get a signature indicating that the package was delivered.

In modern times, while much of our correspondence is done via email, many legal documents do still need to be sent via hardcopy.

Regardless of which way you choose to deliver documents, preparing a transmittal for the documents is a great way to formalize that they were sent. Each transmittal outlines the person it was sent from, who it going to, the contents of the package as well as how it was delivered.
