Full Description
Ever had one of those projects where everything seem to have gone wrong? How about a project where everything went right? We’ve all been on projects where things went right and wrong so it’s important to learn from both of those instances. A lessons learned session at the end of a project can help to transfer knowledge from the current team onto the next. What is a lessons learned session in construction and how can a template be useful?
A lessons learned is an activity typically performed at the end of a project that brings together a group of people to talk about mistakes and successes on a project. The purpose is to record the things that went right or wrong, and why they did so in order to provide opportunities for learning and improvement for future construction projects.
Lessons learned can be done in person, or virtually but should be performed by the entire project team. Regardless, a template should be used to record answers and feedback in order to pass it along to the remainder of the company. By standardizing the format you provide more consistency across an organization or team and force people to think about key topics.
This construction lessons learned template features a number of fields which include:
- Description
- Success / Failure
- Impact
- Changes for future projects
- Action steps
