Scissor lifts are a common piece of construction equipment on construction sites. One of the reasons they are so common is that they are easy to use and stable to work off of. With this piece of equipment being so common on construction sites is it important to check them prior to use. You may be asking yourself what is a scissor lift, how should I inspect one and what should I look for?
A scissor lift is a piece of equipment that includes a platform that moves up and down supporting a worker and a piece of equipment. A scissor lift typically is motorized with four wheels allowing it to traverse horizontally as well.
As with other piece of machinery, it is important to perform a preinspection prior to use. The reason this is important is because pieces can break down over time and become a danger to the operator or surrounding workers. An important part of the inspection process is using a checklist. This allows you to standardize what’s being inspected and helps ensure oversights aren’t made.
